So a masked, rifle-wielding gunman took hostages today at a movie theater in Germany. I must have missed something. Doesn't Germany have very strict gun control? Or is that "common sense" gun control? Apparently another bad guy didn't get the memo.
Also find it curious CNN didn't provide any details about the gunman who was killed by police other than to parrot German authorities who say they don't believe it was terror related.
I'm sure we will find out shortly that it was another one of those right-wing, Republican American, Southern Rednecks, who cling to their Bibles and guns just like the Orlando and San Bernardino murderers, right?

What? A School Shooting in Canada? Must America's Fault
So how could this happen? A school shooting in Sasketchewan, Canada that has left four dead. What about all the strict gun laws? I guess once again the murderous "perp" didn't get the memo that guns aren't allowed especially at a school.
Well it's only about a 13 hour drive from Montana, so it is only a matter of time before the "Blame America First" crowd starts claiming this is carryover from the U.S. and America and its gun culture is somehow to blame.
Still my thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the dead and wounded.

This is Why Conservatives Reject Banning Guns
I think it is fair to say that Progressives favor big government and that most of today's Progressives are either 60s and 70s misfits or have been influenced by them. Further, they have embedded themselves in all levels of our government and bureaucracies.
I have often said, "Give them enough time and Progressives will tell you what they really think." The recent statement by the co-chairman of the Colorado ACLU, Loring Werbel, http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN0TV06420151212 that suggests shooting Trump voters before Election Day proves my point. Now of course, Wirbel has said it was a joke and has stepped down.
Back when Obama pal, Bill Ayers, was in the Weather Underground, the FBI infiltrated the group. The undercover agent testified that if the group ever gained power, they planned to create re-education camps (where have we heard that before?) to deal with those who are uncooperative and they were completely comfortable with having to eliminate as much as 1/4 of the American population.
If people like this ever become "the government", who will protect us from "the government"? This is why the Framers insisted on the 2nd Amendment and today's patriots continue to support it. Could it also be why Progressives are so opposed to it? I don't know and I don't want to find out.

Intellectual Inconsistency or Is It Just Me?
So there are some in this country, we all know who they are, that have no problem with violating everyone's 2nd Amendment rights when they advocate confiscating all guns but become apoplectic at the notion of "Stop and frisk" because it might violate the 4th Amendment rights of a few?
Is it me or does this seem to be intellectually inconsistent? What is especially troubling to me is mayors like Martin O'Mally and Mike DeBlazio ended the highly successful "Stop and frisk" programs in Baltimore and NewYork City which has resulted in a huge spike in homocides. It makes me wonder if stopping gun violence is actually the goal.

Ideological Blindness on Rise in America
Disease and injury are the typical causes of blindness but there is a new source of blindness on the rise in America - ideology.
Ideological blindness manifests itself in things like the following:
The president saying "These things just don't happen in other countries." when responding to the attack in San Bernardino. Apparently, it skipped Mr. Obama's mind that the French crowd before him had just suffered their own horrific attack that left ten times the number of dead and wounded than the U.S. attack; or
It taking American authorities nearly three days to be willing to call the attack terrorism despite clear evidence available early on such as huge ammunition stores, a dozen pipe bombs, numerous weapons, in the attackers home and the attacker arriving in full assault gear; or
It continuing to insist that climate change is a bigger threat than radical Islam; or
Citizens seeing suspicious activity but being afraid to say anything for fear of being accused of profiling as was the case with the neighbors of the attackers; or
The president calling for more common sense gun laws and citing the fact that current laws allow those on the terrorism "no fly" list to legally buy a firearm in the U.S.. Why would anyone rational person have any faith that the system that allowed this to happen in the first place is the same system that can fix it?
American needs to have the ideological scales plucked from its eyes before it is too late.

In Australia, How Can This Be?
But they confiscated all the guns in Australia? Apparently some didn't get the memo.

Gun-free Zone: An Idea Whose Time Has Come......To Go
Regardless of how one feels about gun control or the 2nd Amendment, one thing is for certain - and all the evidence bears it out - gun-free zones are a bad idea. The massacre of four Marines at a Chattanooga recruiting station is just the latest result of this bad idea. The pictures in the newspapers from the crime scene of the "gun-free zone" sticker surrounded by bullet holes in the glass tragically and ironically demonstrate the point - criminals don't obey the law. Furthermore, those intent on killing lots of people look for the best opportunity to be successful. They avoid areas where they think there will be a high police presence or there is a high likelihood that they will meet armed resistance. The evidence is crystal clear.
According the Crime Prevention Research Center, 92% of the public mass shooting since 2009 have taken place in gun-free zones. [http://crimepreventionresearchcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/CPRC-Mass-Shooting-Analysis-Bloomberg2.pdf] James Holmes, the recently convicted, Aurora, Colorado movie theater killer, chose the one cinema out of the seven theaters in his area showing the premiere of the new Batman movie that was a designated "gun-free" zone - not the closest or the biggest - the safest for him and the one where he would not face an armed defender or defenders. The murderers themselves often leave a written record of why they chose the target that they did and usually they specifically site that they seek to attack locations where they aren't going to face another armed person. Elliot Rodgers, the Santa Barbara killer, wrote in his crazy manifesto that he specifically wanted to avoid areas where there would be lots of police because he didn't want to be stopped before he was able to kill a lot of people. (By the way - key safety tip: If you ever hear someone talk about writing a manifesto or you stumble across one on the Internet, alert the authorities - you have identified a freaking nut job!) Sandy Hook, Ft Hood (shootings 1 and 2), the Washington Navy Yard - all gun-free zones.
While not a mass shooting, several years ago, airport rental car companies had to stop putting stickers on their cars because carjackers realized that if you were in a rental a car coming from the airport, you most likely just got off a plane and couldn't be armed. You were an easy target.
The point is criminals and mass murderers look for easy targets. It's time to stop making it easy for them. We should start by not patronizing businesses that are "gun-free" zones. It could save your life! Here is a list of gun-free zone businesses (potential death traps) to avoid:

Or at least write and tell them to stop advertising themselves as nice, soft targets to the bad guys. I'm not saying I want a bunch of armed people in these places. I just don't want crazies to know for sure that there aren't any there.
And for heaven sake, let out trained military men and women carry their side arms on base again! It is what they do.
